Keeping your skin healthy and hydrated is extremely important. Even in cold weather you want to have that natural glow and stay far away from flaky and dry looking skin. Taking good care of your skin should be a part of your daily regiment.

So, ladies here are some tips and products that will keep you looking beautiful all winter long.

Moisturize:

Moisturize you skin every day in the morning and at night. Make sure you moisturize your knees, elbows, and feet because they will dry out more quickly then other areas. I always try to make sure to at least moisturize my legs and feet twice a day.

In the shower I always use a rich and creamy body wash. I find they give me the most moisture and you skin feels silky smooth before you even apply your lotion.

My Favorite Products:

Jergens Ultra Healing Body Lotion $4.29

Olay Complete Moisturizing Lotion w/ SPF 15 $7.49

Olay Quench Body Wash $6.99

Exfoliate:

Exfoliate your skin at least once a week to remove those dead skin cells. It will leave your skin feeling soft and refreshed.

My Favorite Product:

St. Ives Apricot Scrub $3.59

Sunscreen:

Even though it’s not warm outside you should still apply at least a 15 SPF to your face everyday. You can get great face lotions with an 15 SPF or have flawless makeup and protect your skin all in one when using a primer before applying your makeup.

My Favorite Products:

Olay Complete Moisturizing Lotion w/ SPF 15 $7.49

NARSĀ  Makeup Primer w/ SPF 20 $33

NARS Makeup Primer w/ SPF 20

Self Tanners:

Most people know that tanning is bad for you, but it’s so hard to not want that beautiful tanned skin. Well I have found something that works, and that is foam self tanner. No streaks, no orange.

My favorite Product:

Jergens Natural Glow Foam Moisture (comes in different skin tones!) $8.99

Liquids:

I’m not saying to drink 8 glasses of water a day, but make sure you do drink water throughout the day. Water does wonders for not only you skin, but washes out those bad toxins.

Tips:

  • Try to substitute as least one drink for a 16oz glass of water.
  • Drink a glass of cold water before you eat, first thing in the morning it will not only hydrate you but also help to speed up your metabolism.
  • Drink tea, it also does wonders for your skin, but helps you get that natural and healthy glow.
  • Drink water before and after alcoholic drinks, will stop your skin from looking pasty and dry the next day.

Lips:

Always keep your chap stick handy throughout the day. Make sure your chap stick has an SPF to prevent wind burn.

My Favorite Product:

ChapStick Fresh Effects, Invigorating Green Tea Mint $1.99

Vitamins:

The best vitamins to take in the winter to keep your skin healthy are flaxseed oil capsules which will hydrate you from within and the are great for your overall health. You can also take hair, skin, and nails vitamin which are similar to prenatal vitamins.

My Favorite Products:

Flaxseed Oil Capsules $6.49

Two words for your winter skin health: sunshine and caffeine.

    Sunshine = Vitamin D
I know, I know, you live in Chicago and think the sun never shines, but that’s hype. Its cold and sunny in Chi-town. So try to get about 10 minutes of sunshine on your skin per day: its good for you, and will give your face a health glow and 10 minutes will not give you skin cancer…but only 10 minutes. You live near the lake…take an early morning walk every day, then run home and slather your skin in Oil of Olay (Moi uses it too!) Plus sunshine makes you happy…how can you be sad when the sun is shining! If you can’t get the sunshine, then take a Vitamin D supplement, most of us unknowingly have a severe vitamin D deficiency!

    Caffeine
With the clock changing this weekend, the days get shorter, and we seem to need a little more caffeine to keep us going. Caffeine is bad for our skin, it dries us out from the inside, and slathering on all the moisturizer on the outside won’t help. So cut back on the caffeine. A cup or two of coffee per day won’t hurt, beyond that, switch to a healthier green tea, it still has caffeine, but in a better anti-oxidant form that is better for your skin.

And exercise and healthy eating and enough sleep will show on your face, especially in the winter, so try to just live as healthy as you can…when you’re all bundled up in winter, your face is all anyone can see!
    ciao, bon weekend!
